Travel Prize for Undergraduate Students – National Women’s Studies Association (NWSA) Annual Conference

For Gender Studies majors or minors interested in pursuing a graduate degree, the Department of Gender Studies will provide support to attend the National Women’s Studies Association (NWSA) annual conference.  To be considered, candidate should submit a 500-750 statement explaining their interest in attending and how this opportunity relates to their future goals. Award includes up to $1000 each for two students to attend (transportation, shared hotel room, NWSA membership, and registration), to be coordinated through Gender Studies.  Details for the conference for Fall 2023 in Baltimore, MD:

Gender Studies Honors Research Project Assistance Prize

Research award for an upper division Gender Studies major who is eligible for and is pursuing honors in the major in 2022-23 (cumulative GPA of 3.4).

Gender Studies Community Engagement Prize 

Gender Studies majors or minors, recognizing outstanding achievements in practical applications of feminist theory through community service. To be considered, candidate should submit a 500-750 word essay describing your academic accomplishments and your engagement in gender-related organizations and political projects.  Recipients will be recognized with a certificate at commencement.

Deadline: May 5, 2023

Gender Studies Prize for Research Excellence

For Gender Studies majors or minors (graduating seniors) for best research paper or critical essay submitted in a Gender Studies course (including 199 courses), during the current academic year or the previous Spring quarter.  Students are nominated by Gender Studies faculty and TAs (one nominee each, seniors only). Recipients will be recognized with a certificate at commencement.

Deadline: May 5, 2023

Nominations from faculty and TAs should be sent to info@gender.ucla.edu and should include:

  • Student’s name
  • Course number, title and quarter
  • Title of the nominated paper (if possible)

Nominees will be contacted to submit the nominated paper.
