Statement of Support for Faculty, Staff, and Students Harassed for Speaking out about Palestine

UCLA Department of Gender Studies reaffirms its unequivocal support for students, staff, and faculty who speak out about the devastating and escalating violence in Palestine. We reassert our right and responsibility to address this and similar phenomenon within the university community and the broader public free from intimidation, harassment, and violence.

Gender Studies teaches us to situate the contemporary violence in Palestine within its broader historical and political contexts, including those of racial/gender violence, (settler) colonialism, US imperialism, and struggles for indigenous sovereignty. We also situate the contemporary attacks on academic freedom and right to organize within their broader historical and political contexts of the repression of academia and progressive social movements in the US and beyond.

We strongly reject any and all efforts to repress research, teaching, and activism on racial violence and war in general and apartheid and genocide in Palestine in particular, whether those efforts take form of doxing, harassment, retaliation, punitive action, or outright criminalization.
